Based on the two features of aesthetics in the Song dynasty (960-1279) Qiyun (refined atmosphere) and Liubai (negative space), the Cantonese opera film The White Snake has created a brand-new and unique Chinese style Xianxia drama, and thus proved a hit among the majority of the young audience.
In the morning of June 10, the film earned 13.95 million dollars’ worth of tickets and officially toped the box office of the Chinese opera film history. Furthermore, the marks of the film grow with the viewing records, and the highly praised film currently has a score of 8.2 on a fan site Douban.
