Yangqi: a legendary journalist who travels around Guangdong and Hong Kong,took risks to contribute to Chinese revolutions

He has been in charge of 7 different newspapers, with a Party standing for 80 years. He as well raised the first National Flag of the People's Republic of China in Hong Kong.

Yang Qi is a 99-year-old legendary journalist, with a Party standing of 80 years.

He graduated from the Chinese Press and Publication College sponsored by progressive intellectuals in Hong Kong in 1940, and began his journalism career thereafter.

Yang Qi had participated in founding five newspapers, namely, the Advance Newspaper (1942) which was popularized around the Dongjiang guerrilla area during World War II, the Positive Newspaper (1945) which was founded by the Communist Party of China in Hong Kong after World War II, the Nan Fang Daily (1949) as the official newspaper of the South China Bureau of the Communist Party of China , the first large evening newspaper Yangcheng Evening News (1957),  and the Zhaoqing Daily (1972) after the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

The newspapers he presided over, also included the Chinese Business Newspaper, which was the only newspaper in Hong Kong that could directly spread the voice of the CPC Central Committee outside the liberated area in the 1940s.

During his work at the Chinese Business Newspaper, Yang Qi also participated in the famous “Secret Rescue" from 1948 to 1949，helping escort democratic people to the north to establish the new CPP Central Committee. Later, Mr. Li Jishen, the Vice President of the PRC, was escorted and disembarked by Yang Qi under the secret monitor of agents, and successfully left Hong Kong by marine transportation.

The centenarian legend journalist, now living in a simple and frugal room in Guangzhou, still read newspapers from time to time, with the world and people in his mind.

Deep within him, the courage and steadiness of the Communists are reflected in the keenness and responsibility as being a journalist; His achievements and experiences can also be used as a vivid chapter in the news history of Guangdong and Hong Kong, even the history of the revolution in South China, which could bring impacts to the later generations.

杨奇，一位今年99岁高龄、党龄已长达80年的传奇报人。

1940年，他在香港毕业于进步知识分子主办的中国新闻学院，从此走上新闻生涯。

杨奇曾亲手创办过五份报纸，分别是：抗战时期活跃在东江游击区的《前进报》（1942年），抗战胜利后中国共产党在香港创办的《正报》（1945年），中华人民共和国成立后创办的《南方日报》（1949年）、第一份大型晚报《羊城晚报》（1957年），以及《肇庆日报》（1972年）。

他主持过的报纸，还包括上世纪40年代，在解放区外唯一能直接传播中共中央声音的香港《华商报》。

也就是在《华商报》工作期间，杨奇亲身参与了1948-1949年那场举世闻名的“秘密大营救”，护送民主人士离港北上参加新政协。后来成为中华人民共和国中央人民政府副主席的李济深，即是由杨奇从特工的眼皮底下护送脱身、搭船离港的。

这位已近百岁高龄的传奇报人，如今在羊城的朴素居室中颐养天年，仍不时翻阅报章，心怀天下。

在他身上，共产党人的勇毅坚贞，与报人的敏锐和担当互为表里；他的业绩与阅历，亦可作为粤港新闻史乃至华南革命史的生动篇章，传扬后世。
