How Guangzhou lab helps Hong Kong, Macao on virus testing?

Three Chinese mainland laboratories were picked to help Hong Kong carry out their mass Covid-19 testing at the end of July last year in 2020. The three labs include Shenzhen-based BGI Group, Guangzhou-based KingMed Diagnostics and the Hong Kong Molecular Pathology Diagnostic Center.

According to KingMed Diagnostics, the lab has undertaken 2.4 million virus tests conducted by the government of Hong Kong SAR and private clinics by April 18. Wang Linglai, Senior Vice President of KingMed, said the Hong Kong residents are now more positive about virus testing. "In the beginning, virus testing cost about 2000 HKD. But the price dropped to 200 HKD as third-party institutions like ours have entered Hong Kong and enhanced the testing capability."

Wang Linglai added the Hong Kong Hospital Authority is satisfied with their services and they have been offering Hong Kong residents various testing services apart from Nucleic Acid Testing. "We have two labs and a R&D center in Hong Kong. We served more than 400 medical institutions and maintain close partnership with Hong Kong universities."

In addition, KingMed also committed to carrying out virus testing at the Chinese mainland-Macao border checkpoint commencing March 1 this year. Thus far, they have tested about 60 thousand passengers.
