Guangdong to have one new airport in Foshan

Recently, the Civil Aviation Administration of China formally approved the site selection of Guangdong’s new airport, agreeing to take Genghebei in Gaoming District, Foshan City as the recommended site.

The new airport is positioned as an important international transport hub in the western Pearl River Delta as well as a key world-class hub airport in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay area.

Genghebei is located in the west of Foshan City, 56km from the downtown area, 95km from the Baiyun Airport. The planned new airport will start operating with two runways with the option of building of a third one. The short-term construction target is that in 2035, the airport can accommodate 30 million passengers. As for the long term, in 2050, the airport will be capable of handling 60 million passengers. It was also reported that the airport will be suitable for the take-off and landing of A380, the world’s biggest plane.

The new airport will focus on domestic and international cargo transportation and develop into a hub airport in the Pearl River Delta by building convenient and efficient airport transportation network.
